How it works

  1. 1

    Upload

Drop a PDF. We verify the file header before anything is processed.

  2. 2

    Reduce

Ghostscript lowers quality presets and image DPI until the file is at or under your cap.

  3. 3

    Download

Save the smaller PDF. The server copy is deleted within an hour.

What “reduce PDF size” actually has to do

People type reduce PDF size when a form, email, or WhatsApp transfer rejects a 8–15 MB scan. The file is not “too high quality”. It is over a byte limit. A quality slider that lands at 240 KB still fails a 200 KB field.

This page reduces PDF size by targeting a ceiling you choose (default 200 KB, the most common Indian portal cap). Ghostscript tries milder presets first, then downsamples images. Use 100 KB, 200 KB, or 500 KB if the notice prints those numbers.

After you reduce the PDF, open it and check photos, signatures, and Hindi/English text. Keep the original until the upload succeeds. For photos that must be JPG, use reduce JPG size instead of wrapping a picture in a PDF.

What you get

Exact size targeting

Set 50 KB, 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB, or custom — not a vague quality slider.

Text stays readable

PDF reduction downsamples images first so form text and Hindi/English copy stay usable.

Auto-delete in 1 hour

Files sit outside the web root and are purged on a schedule. No training, no ads.

Works on any device

Reduce a PDF or JPG from a phone while filling an exam or job form.

No watermark

The download is your file. We do not stamp pages or photos.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce PDF size online?

Upload the PDF on this page, keep the 200 KB target (or pick another preset), and download the reduced file. CompressPdfs Online uses Ghostscript quality presets and image downsampling until the PDF is at or under 200 KB.

Does reducing a PDF lower quality?

Reducing PDF size can soften photos, but text-heavy forms usually stay readable. We lower embedded image DPI only as far as needed. If the target still cannot be met, you get the smallest readable file plus a clear message.

Is it safe to upload my file here?

Uploads are stored outside the public web root, addressed by unguessable names, and deleted automatically after one hour. We do not use your documents for advertising, training, or sharing, and download links expire so a leaked URL stops working.

Can I reduce a PDF for SSC, UPSC, or a govt job form?

Yes. Match the kilobyte number printed next to that field (often 100 KB, 200 KB, or 500 KB), reduce the file here, then open it and check seals and text before you upload to the portal.

Is reduce PDF size the same as compress PDF?

Yes — both mean making the file use fewer bytes. This site targets an exact cap rather than a Low/Medium/High slider, which is what most Indian exam validators actually check.

Do I need an account or email?

No. There is no signup, no email wall, and no watermark on the reduced PDF.
