Why compress a PDF to exactly 100 KB?
100 KB is a frequent middle ground: large enough for a clean one-page scan of a PAN, Aadhaar (where a PDF is allowed), marksheet extract, or category certificate, and small enough for older application servers. Several university admission modules and state job portals still list 100 KB as the document ceiling even when photos are specified separately in JPEG.
Generic compressors that offer “strong compression” might land you at 140 KB or 60 KB. The first still fails the validator; the second may have crushed a photograph you needed. Targeting 100 KB stops that guesswork. We try milder Ghostscript presets first so text PDFs keep their fonts, then walk image DPI down only if the byte count is still high.
